For the past two years, I have been in Plan N with Aetna. In the past two years, I have had two annual physicals and two annual visits to the dermatologist. There has been no other utilization and I take no medications.
The broker, who is very good, called today and said that Aetna will email me with my new rate which will be $131.62 per month. He checked the rates for other "major" carriers and a few, including AARP/UnitedHeathcare and Mutual of Omaha, were more expensive, and two were less expensive. Humana came in at $118.65 and Cigna at $109.67. Switching to Cigna will save $263.40 over the next year. However, he did not recommend Cigna because they will be selling their Medicare business to Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) in the first quarter of 2025 and in his experience when this happens, the rates tend to go up more the following year (like when CVS Health bought Aetna). His choice would be Humana, where I can save $155.64 for the next year. Not a big savings but it does add up each year and I would rather have the money in my pocket than Aetna's.
Not a big decision in life, but I wanted to get your thoughts. Option 1: Switch to Humana and save $155.64 over the next year. Option 2: Switch to Cigna (HCSC) and save $263.40 and hope that if HCSC really bumps up the rate this time next year that my health is as good as it is now so I will not have a problem with underwriting and switch again?
Thank you.
