Personal Consumer Issues • [HVAC] Factory authorized dealer vs. others

Summary: Looking for input on how important it is to use a "factory authorized dealer" for HVAC equipment replacement.

First time poster, very thankful long time reader of the insights and wisdom on this forum.

I am in the market for an AC and furnace replacement.

There are only a handful of HVAC outfits in our mid-sized town. Some are authorized dealers (as listed on the HVAC manufacturers' websites) whereas some others are not (but still show up on those sites as a "featured dealer").

The size of the HVAC company, nor quality of Google / Yelp reviews, appear to have no bearing on dealership status; as in, one of the larger companies is not an authorized dealer but a couple of the smaller companies are.

After obtaining several quotes, I have been primarily working with possibly the largest company in the area based on lots of good reviews and the sales person being very good to work with.

I realized recently that they are not authorized dealers of Bryant equipment (due to being a dealer for a competing HVAC manufacturer, I am told) nor are Nate certified. Of the the two authorized dealers in the area, one has subpar reviews and the other appears to be a smallish outfit (no mention of after-hours service etc.) albeit with a handful of reviews most of which are good.

Given the close to 20K purchase price, I am having some qualms about going with a dealer who is not "factory authorized" especially in the event there are hard-to-fix issues with the equipment (a small number of reviews on the Bryant website complaining of high noise levels and hard to diagnose / resolve issues with these "communicating" systems, which are currently the prime candidates due to lower noise levels and higher comfort levels). Having said there, there are not many other choices especially if sticking with this manufacturer.

I would appreciate your input.

Thanks!
