There is a house on the corner of our block (we are a few houses away) that appears to the neighborhood hangout for the cats. The neighbors feed them. The cats will regularly "patrol" the area which we don't mind as we enjoy seeing them and it has kept mice/rodents away from the area. The issue is the cats have taken a liking to using the area next to our garage/carport as a restroom spot.
2 Days ago, I removed all of the waste and soiled dirt and put down some weed liner in an attempt to deter them. Last night, I found that at least 1 still urinated on the liner and the hopped the fence to finish the rest of his business by our garage.
Before anyone recommends trapping/removing the cat or talking to the neighbors about this, I would rather not. They are a sweet older couple and I find this brings them a lot of joy in their lives being the neighborhood spot for these cats. My wife and I enjoy seeing them in our area and we like that they keep rodents away.
I'm looking to getting a couple of the motion activated sprinklers and running a hose in the area. Does anyone have any experience with their effectiveness? Any other things that can do to deter their use of the restroom in our carport/garage area?
Thanks!
