I have a friend at work who's husband's father just passed. He had a will and lived in Delaware. However, he also had about $450k in cash in his house due to a distrust of banks. There are 3 beneficiaries in question. The issue is whether this triggers probate and also what is the best way for the beneficiaries to move the cash into bank or investment accounts. My initial thought is that yes this probably triggers probate depending on the state and that the best way to convert it is to make multiple bank deposits that are less than $10k until all is moved. Thoughts?
