Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Parents' estate: Go to reference or guide?

Hello,

Situation: My father has been diagnosed with a bad illness. My mother is already disabled. My father has not done well documenting his finances and he owns a business. He’s come for me for help since he needs it. His goal is to support my mother when he passes in a year or so, but he isn’t able to articulate what exactly he wants and needs. It’s a complicated situation with unfortunate family dynamics.

I realize there are numerous variables I need to consider to help him. Every day that goes by he becomes less sharp and less capable of remembering where his money and assets are located.

Is there any type of guide or resource that can help us take this step by step? Some type of online program or printed resource that can prompt me to ask to him questions and things to consider? I am not seeking individual suggestions since there is so much to consider. More of a “1,000 things to consider” guide.

Thank you for any help or guidance.

-Chris
