Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Health Insurance Selection

Hi,

I am having a hard time selecting health insurance for next year. It is for myself and my spouse. No medical issues or kids.

I've narrowed down to the PPO or HDHP. Both plans are extremely strong. However, I can't decide between being nearly fully covered at nearly any cost or taking advantage of the generous HSA contribution.

Any perspective would be most appreciated!

HDHP - $0 Annual Premium / $2,000 Employer Contribution
  • Deductible $2000 Individual / $4000 Family
  • Out of Pocket Max $3000 Individual / $6000 Family
  • 10% Coinsurance, however the majority of items are covered to 90% within network. All hospitals near us are innetwork.
PPO - $1,584 Annual Premium
  • Deductible $0 Individual / $0Family
  • Out of Pocket Max $2000 Individual / $4000 Family
  • $20 Copay. However, most items are nearly fully covered:
  • Ambulance is 100% Covered - No Copay.
  • Emergency Room is $75 Co-Pay, 100% Covered.
  • Hospital Admission is $150 Co-Pay, 100% Covered.
