I like Chase a lot, but their higher tier Sapphire checking requires tying up 75k with the bank or in a self-directed account. The main perks are no overdraft fees, no foreign transaction fees, free wires, and worldwide refunded ATM fees.
- I have sent a wire 2x in my life, both when purchasing a house.
- I can't remember the last time I've gotten cash out in the US (and there are many Chase ATMs anyway)
- I travel internationally 2x a year, but again, rarely withdraw cash. Even if I did, the fees aren't that bad from Chase.
- I have never over-drafted a checking account in my life.
Does anyone get value out of these higher tier accounts? It's not costing me anything to have it, other than one extra brokerage to deal with.
The only thing that is nice are the higher limits on these accounts. 100k vs. 25k for ACH, and something higher for Zelle (which I rarely use).
