Personal Finance (Not Investing) • W4 Withholding - one spouse makes more than 2x than other spouse; MFJ

I’ve searched extensively for threads on W-4 forms but can’t find a clear answer. Our situation is as follows: my income is $160k, and my wife’s income is $65k. On our W-4s, we currently have MFJ checked in Step 1 and skipped the other steps.

I’ve noticed that my wife, with her $65k salary, is definitely under-withholding each year. I’m unsure about my situation with the $160k income, but my withholding seems significantly higher. We both own taxes each April.

For our W-4s, should we choose 2B (calculate per table and apply to the highest-paid spouse’s W4 only) or 2C (check on each spouse’s W-4)?

The instructions for 2C contradict the guidelines on another page regarding situations where one spouse’s income is more than 2x the other’s.
