Hi everyone,
It's nice to "meet" you all. I'm a 31 year old who has overcome risk behaviors (gambling, options trading) that have done some detrimental damage to my mind and savings.
I own/operate my own LLC and I'm grateful that it has provided enough for me to have no credit card debt, and this year I paid off $80K worth of private student loans. I did recently beat TC (testicular cancer), which has been a whirlwind. Feeling so exposed to the possibility of further illness/death from TC demolished my ability to see long term. So I didn't see investing in anything as a priority.
Also I've deleted my gambling account, stripped my options-based brokerage account, opened up a Schwab Solo 401K, Schwab Roth IRA, brokerage account for short/medium-term savings.
This is what I have right now:
Solo 401K - Nothing invested yet.
Roth IRA - $7K invested in VOO.
Brokerage Account - $20K uninvested.
This is what I was thinking as a starting point:
Solo 401K - $15K Schwab Total Stock Market Index Fund (SWTSX)
Roth IRA - $7K Schwab U.S. Broad Market ETF (SCHB)
Brokerage Account - $5K Stock Investing.
When I get the extra funding, I'll see about adding international (VT) to the Solo 401K portfolio.
And my investment strategy as follows:
Solo 401K - Max, then
Roth IRA - Max, then,
Solo Roth 401K - Open/Max if the Solo 401K is maxed, then,
Regular Brokerage Account - Any extra funds.
Does this sound like an OK start?
Thank you in advance.
Respectfully,
JD
