Personal Consumer Issues • Buying Bed For Apartment

Hi Everyone,

I am living in my own apartment, single, and unmarried in a new city and am now sleeping on an inflatable mattress while gradually getting the stuff needed for life over time. I'm in my 20s -- with the goal of building the human capital necessary to get the career rolling on a hard and fruitful long journey -- therefore deliberately do not acquire excess items or anything that could hinder a relocation on a whim as a general rule. Whenever and if such a need for a relocation should come up, I plan to load up a moving POD or truck and to ship the items to the destination.

Right now my projected big ticket items for a long distance relocation to load in to a POD or truck in the far future are (1) an Ikea dinner table whose legs I can quickly take off and fold, (2) a special three-shelf bookshelf that can fold into being flat in no time, and (3) boxes of clothes, kitchen appliances, etc.

I now need to purchase a bed solution (whether a foldable couch like an Ikea Frichten sofa bed) or a hard mattress. I'm interested in a bed solution that is
  • Hard -- the harder the better. I'm told that it is hard to find hard mattresses in the United States to sleep on
  • Portable -- I want to take it with me wherever I relocate and need it to be able to fit the option of shoving into a POD or Moving truck
  • Quality -- obviously want this to be a one-time buy
I'm going to be thinking about the decision to make over the next few weeks. Would you all Bogleheads have any potential thoughts regarding what factors to consider during the decision process? Maybe there are certain dimensions that would render it all but impossible to shove a sofa bed or mattress into a moving truck or pod for example.

Thanks in advance!
