Personal Finance (Not Investing) • health insurance before medicare eligible

I am 59, will be 60 soon. I am not medicare eligible. I am very healthy, I only go for annual physical exam/preventive, that's about it. I looked at Obama care, it is not affordable at all, since i am not eligible for any goverment credit. curently, I got my health insurance from my previous employer, it's about $800/month, high deductable.
are there any better way to get chaper insurance? I heard some say short term travel insurance or short term insurace, but I am not sure how it works. if I do get sick and have big medical expense, those short term insurance probably won't cover. I would appreciate anyone share your ideas/tips.
thank you!
