My essential question: Can I purchase ACA insurance for my minor child as a stand alone policy instead of including them on my work policy? Not looking for any subsidies, just the ability to buy an individual policy for them.
Background: I'm in a partnership so I pay both employee and employer parts of health insurance. Our group health insurance policy nearly doubles when I go from myself and spouse to including my child. It isn't prorated for additional children, so my partners with 6-7 kids pay the same as I do with only one.
While I'm at it, could I drop my group health insurance and enroll in the ACA for my whole family (no subsidy) if that was a better deal?
Obviously, I'm a total novice on ACA rules and regs. Thanks!
