I am currently paying for Medicare monthly but not yet receiving Social Security Retirement benefits. When I pay the Medicare premium each month the period covered is the month following the month of the payment.
So, for example when I pay the Medicare premium payment due in January, the period covered is the month of February. It is paid in advance of the coverage period.
My question is what happens when I start receiving Social Security Retirement benefits and instead of paying the Medicare premium separately, it is automatically deducted from my Social Security benefit payment.
Does the Medicare premium deducted from the Social Security benefit payment still cover the month after the deduction is made?
So if I get a Social Security benefit payment in January, does the Medicare premium deduction from that payment apply to the month of February?
I know that the Social Security benefits are paid the month AFTER the month to which they apply. But will the Medicare premiums still be deducted in advance of the month they apply to?
I assume yes, but looking for a definitive answer.
Thanks.
