I’ve been getting conflicting information about whether I can withhold NY state income tax from my RMD distribution at Vanguard.
Specifically, an OP on a Boglehead thread states: “Vanguard will withhold for taxes only for those states that require it. If your state does not require withholding, Vanguard will not withhold anything, even if you request it”
By contrast, I phoned Vanguard today and the representative told me that I can withhold NY state income tax from my RMD.
1.Does anybody have experience withholding NY State income tax from their RMD at Vanguard?
2.If Vanguard does permit NY State withholding tax from an RMD, is it possible to withhold state income tax but not Federal income tax? (I withhold federal income tax from my pension which does not permit state income tax to be withheld.)
Thanks in advance.
