Personal Investments • Bogle Crowdsourcing my 5 year plan

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all! Long time observer, first time poster. I am seeking to crowdsource a decision on my investment portfolio. My intent is to take the response with the most quotes (kinda like voting) and execute the distribution exactly as proposed. I’ll provide monthly updates via screenshots if anyone is interested in following along. I’ll look to make a decision no later than New Years. Background info below.

General: We are a late 30s couple with two children (9 and 1). We are finally debt free, 5-6 years from military pension eligibility. Lifelong renters.

Other investments: ~$20k in emergency fund. ~$105k in TSP (15% monthly contribution). Military pension will average around ~$6k monthly starting in ~2030/2031.

Goal: Build an appropriate down payment for our first home. I don’t have a sense for the targeted home price. To me, it still seems a bit too far out, location is up in the air, and I’d prefer to determine the amount of home we can afford based off how the investment performs.

Time horizon: I intend to pull the money right at the 5-6 year military retirement horizon.

Initial investment: ~$45k to be invested around 1 Jan 2025.

Monthly contributions: ~5k thru June 2025, dropping to ~1.5k subsequently

Investment Platform: Robinhood (the user interface makes the most sense to me. If I’m incurring significant risk, please let me know).

Preferences: not looking for an overly complex distribution. I’ve seen some breakdowns of 30+ holdings in different combinations of ETFs, single stocks, bonds, etc…not super interested in that approach. If the winning vote is “VOO and chill”, then so be it; the people have spoken! I like the idea of some allocation to an REIT, but at the end of the day, I’m asking you all for help.

Standing by to answer any follow-on questions. Please forgive any lag in response; I’m some number hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.

Thank you all for the consideration and thoughts in advance!
