Personal Consumer Issues • Prepaid cell plans: network deprioritization vs throttling?

I have used Verizon prepaid for years, but I’ve been having a lot of issues with calls not connecting or speeds being slow lately.

Reddit users claim that Verizon is very aggressive in deprioritizing prepaid and MVNO customers in favor of postpaid customers if a tower is crowded.

I thought that this only occurred after you use a certain amount of data, but I may be confusing that with throttling.

I don’t use enough data to be anywhere near the throttling levels, but my speeds still very slow, despite having full bars.

Can someone explain how deprioritization works? Is this even true? Is there a way to avoid it (other than not living in a busy city)?
