Frequent traveller to Hawaii. As was discussed frequently on this forum back in 2020-2021,their was a rental car rate spike when picking up a rental car at airports in Hawaii. Then in 2022-2024, rental car rates came back down to reasonable levels ($40-$60/day when booked through Costco Travel).
But for 2025, I'm seeing crazy high rental car rates again, on the order of $80-$100/day. Does anyone know what is causing this, and whether it is likely to abate?
