This is an investment question/idea.
It's been big news lately about nanoplastic particles building up in the human body. Tied to that are studies showing release of large quantities of nanoplastic particles from plastic water bottles, which are difficult to measure, but not so difficult as food packaging. This research continues.
I'm wondering about getting ahead of the game here, investment-wise. If packaging must be changed to reduce food contact with plastics, and to reduce use of plastics for other types of packaging, this will require a big equipment changeover. Companies have invested a lot in packaging machinery, etc. for food, "loss prevention," shipping, convenience, etc.
Are there companies gearing up to meet this challenge? I emphasize human health implications and food here because that's the most likely catalyst for action on many such issues. Changes could happen quickly as the studies unfold. Are there unique patents or processes ready to put to use or be licensed in case of regulatory involvement? What else would it help to think about here? Who's got an MBA in packaging??
