As of today 1/13/2025 IRIS portal is rejecting 2024 Form 1099-R Box 7 single code submissions with error message "Box 7 - Distribution Code(s) - You must select a valid pairing."
I am attempting to submit 1099-Rs all of which only have a single Box 7 code, none of which have any appropriate second code. I am using the csv file upload with column AU "Box 7 - Distribution code(s)" and a single character (either "G" or "1"), but unless I falsely enter a nonapplicable second single character code from the list of valid pairings, my submission is rejected. I have tried entering a second character as a blank space or zero or simply duplicating the correct first character but they are all also rejected. The only solution I can think of is to submit all of them with the least inaccurate / inappropriate of the acceptable valid second codes which would be "K" (Distribution of traditional IRA assets not having a readily available FMV) even though it does not apply.
I called the IRIS help line 866-937-4130 and received a recorded message "15-30 minute estimated wait time" and was placed on hold for 2 hours after which another recorded message “your call cannot be completed at this time, please try your call again later” and the call was dropped, which has been my experience for the majority of calls I have placed to the IRS.
Anybody have a solution or more appropriate work around? I am using the free IRIS portal, have four 1099-Rs to submit, and do not have FIRE software.
