I recently got a CP2000 for tax year 2022 which advised me of some mistakes on my part. Including the onerous penalties and interest payments due, I was judged to owe $10,000.
Payment options were laid out and I instructed Schwab bank to send a check to the IRS center in KC, MO. After 15 days the check was not presented and I was advised by Schwab to 'stop payment' on that check.
I did so and after a week I told Schwab to issue another check, same $ and address. Each check had my SSN and notice of CP2000. Now this check is also not presented to the bank for payment so I am at a loss as to why.
Is the US postal service so poor that business letters do not arrive? Is the IRS so lax that they don't care to take my money, or they have forgotten what paper checks are? Time frame from CP2000 to my USA address to today: 60 days.
My next step is to ask Schwab to stop payment on check #2, then issue another check but this time using an upgraded Postal service, like Registered or Certified for which I can pay the fee and will more likely arrive at the proper address.
What about online payments? Could, maybe. But my experience in dealing with the online US govt is highly negative, and I actually live in SE Asia so no phone calls etc.
Not pulling my hair out yet, but seek advice to solve my problem. Thanks.
