A Fidelity rep via chat told me a person needs $1M with Fidelity to become part of Fidelity Private Client Group (upgrade from Fidelity Premium Services). I have just over $1M with Fidelity now, my spouse also has just over $1M with them (separate funds), and my daughter has just over $100k there too - we are linked as a household within Fidelity. The remainder of our portfolio is still at Vanguard and in the TSP. I'll probably keep things that way for now.
I asked the Fidelity Rep via chat how to be upgraded to Private Client Group, and they said to call a phone number (the number they provided was later confirmed as the number for Fidelity Premium Services). When I called, they said the only way to be upgraded to Private Client Group is to go through an hour-long call with a Client Rep. I asked if there may be a mistake and they were thinking of the Private Wealth Group instead of the Private Client Group. The Rep said there wasn't a mistake. We are about to leave for vacation, followed by more vacations in rapid succession, so we don't want to schedule a call at this time.
