So, my wife’s Mom passed away last September and some interesting things have developed regarding her estate.
She has one sister. The Mom did not have tons of assets, maybe $160k. Some facts:
* wife and sib are listed as co-executors on will
* sib has told wife not to expect anything from estate
* wife just got copy of will recently, sib had one last September. Wife had to find the will lawyer through her Mom’s friends. Sib has been evasive and uncooperative with info and details.
* the will dictates assets to be shared between wife and sib
* wife has been left out of all interactions with estate lawyer
* sib had been setup as joint on all Mom’s accounts so is sole owner now of assets.
Looks like wife is to get nothing. At same time wife is not willing to sacrifice relationship with her only sib.
This is has been really stressful for my wife and seems wrong on multiple levels. At same time, it seems all legal.
Any advice?
It seems not worth fighting.
