Personal Finance (Not Investing) • OKC: Family New to Oklahoma

My sister is moving to Oklahoma City for a new job. None of us have any connections there and their family have only lived in large cities.

1) The work is around Midwest City and also further east near the Grand Casino. I read Edmond is a nice family friendly suburb with a good school district but the commute looks tough. Any advice on a nice place to live with good schools? I’ve suggested renting for a while first but she is firm on buying a house there soon.

2) Any tips or adjustments for a family coming from Texas with middle school aged kids? Things that outsiders wouldn’t think of.

3) What financial maneuvers should they consider being potentially newly subject to income tax?

4) Is the Fidelity 529 the best option for Oklahoma college savers?
