I'm helping out a friend with his retirement plan options - he just started as part-time faculty at a state school in CA. There is an option he can select that I am not familiar with, it's called "Accumulation Program for Part-time and Limited-Service Employees" (APPLE) Retirement Plan. From what I can tell it seems like it is some sort of 401a plan that invests in an annuity but the school has very out of date information on it.
Is anyone familiar with this plan? It would be helpful to understand things like contribution rules (i.e. limits, pre vs after tax basis for contributions).
