My partner has never been to the US before so we plan on traveling there in December to spend some time in Arizona to see family and a couple of days in LA to see friends.
It will be two weeks in December over Christmas and the only requirement so far is that we fly in and out of Phoenix and spend a couple of days in Tucson with the family. With around 1 week left, how would you spend your time in Arizona in December? We like spending time in the outdoors and being active - day hikes, biking etc. while also enjoying the city life and we plan on going to some NBA games while we are in the states. Any attractions that involve animals is great too.
We would like to visit the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. We understand that there is a risk of fog and snow but we can prepare accordingly. The road where Forrest Gump finished running near Monument Valley, Four Corners Monument and Antelope Canyon is also on our list. Our tentative plan is as follows:
Day 1 - Arrive in Phoenix
Day 2 - Spend the day in Phoenix
Day 3 - Drive to Grand Canyon Village
Day 4 - Grand Canyon Village
Day 5 - Drive to Monument Valley
Day 6 - Monument Valley area
Day 7 - Drive to Phoenix and fly to LA
Day 8 - LA
Day 9 - LA
Day 10 - LA
Day 11 - LA
Day 12 - Fly to Phoenix and drive to Tucson or fly to Tucson directly
Day 13 - Tucson
Day 14 - Tucson
Day 15 - Fly home from Phoenix
We're very flexible with our itinerary except for our time in Tucson from Day 12. We can also cut a day or two in LA to spend more time in AZ as I understand Flagstaff and Sedona are also beautiful places that are highly recommended.
Another option is we extend our departure date so we fly home from LA instead of Phoenix. This would provide us with more time in AZ if we have more things we want to do. Thank you!
