TIPS seem to be very popular here but I am not understanding why. Since I have no ability to forecast inflation, it seems like a total crapshoot to assume TIPS will outperform nominal treasuries. It seems that 2% TIPS real yield is the cut-off…what is the basis for that? Maybe the certainty of a real yield is the basis for TIPS popularity?
