As I have started shopping for an HVAC replacement (full system: condenser + furnace + evaporator coil) I am coming across this notion of Single vs Dual vs Variable Stage. But what has further confused me is that this "trio" of choices, as best I can tell, is possible in three different places - the condenser, the furnace, and the blower motor.
What further confuses me is that a system could have a mix of these - for example one HVAC company wanted to sell me a dual-stage furnace, variable blower motor, and single stage condenser. What configuration is appropriate under which scenario? We are in the mid-Atlantic so fairly and hot and humid summers, moderate winters though more severe cold stretches are possible, and we plan to live in the house 5 - 15 years (not moving immediately but not a 'forever' home).
