My niece is 40 y/o and went thru a bad divorce and hasn't worked in a year. She starts a new job, (LPN) next week, that doesn't pay a lot but at least she's back in the work force. She has $36K to her name at Fidelity and it is all invested in cash. IMO she needs a set and forget portfolio and I'm trying to give her a bit of guidance on what to do as she has little ability to manage money.
I'm looking at two options, either a target date fund, FBIFX Freedom Index 2040, or a three fund portfolio such as;
FZROX total market index 50%
FZILX international index 30%
FXNAX US bond index 20%
I figured I would dollar cost average the money into the market over say 6 months. I'd appreciate any thoughts and suggestions.
Thanks
