Investing - Theory, News & General • Cost of Fidelity VIP Index 500 (S&P 500 in FPRA)

Hi,

Fidelity website indicates its VIP Index 500 FXVLT (S&P 500 index fund in Fidelity Private Retirement Annuity) has expense ratio of 0.09% and 0.25 annual annuity charge. According to one fido representative I spoke with, it tracks the same S&P index as its FXAIX. However, I found the real cost could be higher. From the Performance & Risk tab of FXVLT and FXAIX (expense 0.015%):
S&P Index(%) FXVLT(%) FXAIX (%)
2023 26.29 25.88 (-0.41) 26.29 (0)
2022 -18.11 -18.42 (-0.31) -18.13(-0.02)
2021 28.71 28.26 (-0.45) 28.69(-0.02)
2020 18.4 17.94 (-0.46) 18.4 (0)
2019 31.49 31.02 (-0.47) 31.47 (-0.02)
2018 -4.38 -4.73 (-0.35) -4.40 (-0.02)

The figures in parenthesis is the return difference from S&P index. FXAIX is in line with its expense ratio. But FXVLT is overall larger than its expense ratio + annual annuity charge (0.34%). Does anyone know why? Thanks.
