I am finally transitioning to the new Vanguard brokerage account, but when I get to the end, I need to certify 4 "tax statements", one of which is: "The FATCA code(s) entered on this form (if any) indicating that I am exempt from FATCA reporting is correct."
This makes no sense whatsoever because 1) this isn't a form and 2) there are no codes.
As this is all "under penalty of perjury", I want to make sure I am not doing it wrong because I am NOT FATCA exempt. As there is no form and no code, I think that I can click the box, but can someone please explain this?
(The other three "tax statements" are: Correct tax ID number, not subject to tax withholding, and U.S. citizens. Straightforward.)
Thank you for any insight that you can give me before I sign off on this.
