Hello,
I have my Roth IRA at Vanguard and a taxable account where I have no money invested and just all of it sitting in my settlement fund (VMFXX), with the latter acting as an emergency fund. I have it in the settlement account so that it is easily accessible. I also have a taxable at Fidelity where I actually purchase ETFs.
Due to the changes in Vanguard leadership, I am thinking of moving my Roth IRA over to Fidelity. However, I'd like to keep my emergency fund at Vanguard b/c from what I can tell, VMFXX is the superior MMF.
Will I be allowed to have just one account at Vanguard with money sitting in the settlement fund and no stocks owned?
Secondary Question: Do you think the changes being made at Vanguard i.e. account closure fees, will inevitably happen at Fidelity? That is the kind of red flag that is making me think that more changes are coming that will not be friendly to small investors like myself. However, I am debating whether this will eventually happen at Fidelity and therefore it will not matter to move. Is there other cases of brokerages not having any move-out fees and being more friendly towards small investors since their inception, up to this point?
Thank you for all the help.
