I am with GoogleFi.
In 2018 I bought a Motorola phone from them. A few years later the front and back separated due to an expanding battery.
In 2021 I bought another (updated) Motorola from them. Again, a few years later the front and back separate due to an expanding battery.
A few weeks ago I contacted them and asked them that given that experience why I should buy another Motorola phone from them? It led to an unexpected result. They said that they were going to make an exception and send me a replacement, which arrived shortly after. It was same model but refurbished. It came with all kinds of conditions I had to meet to not get charged for it, including getting the old phone back to them by a deadline.
Today I decided I'd finally do the transfer. I set up a chat with do it since it's not something I'm doing every day.
First thing I was instructed to do was do a backup of the old phone. I'd never realized until now that it was periodically doing automatic backups, which was comforting.
My goal was, since they were identical phones, to essentially end up with a clone of the first.
As I've said here many times I will only use my phone as an absolute resort if I'm away from this computer or tablet or, obviously, need to make a phone call.
I also wanted the wipe everything off the old phone but not before I'd got all off it into the new phone.
There did not seem to be that many apps that were critical to me that needed to be checked.
Phone and Messages came in slowly but surely.
No email addresses came in. Had to again set them up, though GMail seemed to finish the set up once I started it. But the other two email addresses needed for me to basically set up from scratch.
A lot of the apps needed me to input user name / password (when they'd been saved in the old phone).
I've still not got some apps working, even know I know I'm entering correct user name and password. They are not critical.
But the basic theme seems to be that for most apps I need to re-enter user name / password?
After doing a lot of battling I finally got Google Messages to finally work between this computer and phone. That IS critical as I do far more text messages via this computer than the phone but they have to be synced. Kept doing the same thing over and over when finally it worked!
My phone tells me that Microsoft Phone link has been properly set up with my computer but my computer tells me there is an issue.
Is all the above common experience when doing a phone transfer? I was not prepared for all of the above to take about 4 1/2 hours with some issues still to be solved. Or, at least entering in user name / passwords.
