Personal Consumer Issues • Large Jigsaw Puzzles - Best Practices for Not Losing Pieces?

So, eight days in and about 50% complete, it became obvious I was missing a piece on a 3,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Fortunately, after an hour of looking it showed up in our bedroom hidden between the night stand and the bed. It must have been stuck to my clothes when I went upstairs.

Before starting the puzzle, I implemented the following procedures:

1. Expand the large dining room table so that the entire puzzle could be made in one location.
2. No eating in the room. No activities in the room except for puzzle making.
3. Don't throw the plastic bag out. I think I lost a piece from a 1,000 piece puzzle that way once.
4. No sweatshirts or long-sleeve shirts. Pieces stick to the sleeves and find their way around the house.
5. I even temporarily covered the heating duct on the floor so no pieces would fall through.
6. No vacuuming. Cleaned before starting.

So, what else could one reasonably do to not lose pieces? Always check if they are hidden under the puzzle as well.

Have you ever had a missing piece from a new puzzle? I have only had two...one I suspect it was stuck in the bag, the other was a close-out off-brand with two adjacent pieces missing so suspect it was a manufacturing defect.
