I am a physician who has group LTD policy from my employer. I am considering purchasing individual disability policy. Individual disability policies are portable (can be carried from one employer to the other). Does anyone have experience in whether group LTD would reduce (offset) their benefit payout by the amount I get from individual disability policy? I know that group policies commonly (almost always) offset Social Security benefits, retirement benefits, severance pay etc. But how common is it for group LTD to offset individual disability policy payments. I am planning to keep my individual policy when I change employers -- thus I would like to know, if possible, the typical language for the individual policy offsets in group LTD policies
