The hedonic treadmill is often mentioned here. The things we buy just because we want them. We don't need them. They are sometimes not practical, not the cheapest things, but we can easily afford these things and we just want them. They are luxury items. And we usually like them. But what splurges have you spent your money on that you regret? What purchases have let you down or otherwise proved to not be worth the money paid? I'd like to know so I do not make similar purchases, or at least I can be better informed about them.
I will start
(Cat) Litter Robot 3
It was a good idea at first. No more scooping cat litter. Simplify your life. But it's still work replacing plastic liners. The plastic bags are specific to the robot and cost a lot. Then the robot requires maintenance, cleaning, and in the end, I sold it and we are fine just scooping cat litter once or twice a day into a separate trash.
Any new cars purchased that ended up having problems
Includes a Mini Cooper S and a Chevy Volt. A new car should have no problems but these two caused me headaches and lots of depreciation.
Buying pro fights
I used to buy the PPV UFC fights or boxing. They frequently let me down. Now I just wait for the good fights to come out on YT for free.
Paying a company to treat my lawn
I now do it myself with better results for a fraction of the price
