Personal Finance (Not Investing) • What is a simple way to think about bonds?

$

37M | $130K Annual Income

Assets:

$230,000 – Retirement
$420,000 – Taxable Investments
$450,000 – Home
$10,000 – HSA

Liabilities:

$250,000 – Mortgage (15 years, 2.4% APR)

In 2021, I did a cash-out refinance and invested $75K in VTI, which has since grown by $25K.

I'm considering selling $30K of stocks from my retirement account to buy bonds. I’ve never owned bonds and don’t fully understand how they work.

Experienced investors:

Does this move make sense in today’s market?
How should I think about bonds as part of my portfolio?
Any advice would be appreciated!
