In this video with Bill Bengen (the “father of the 4% rule”), at 16:40, he discusses that SWRs are higher for IRA type (tax deferred or tax free) accounts vs for taxable accounts. This doesn’t seem right to me. During accumulation, tax drag on a taxable account will result is a smaller account at retirement. And higher expenses in withdrawal (the annual tax due), but how does this lower the SWR? Here’s the video. Go to 16:40 for the relevant discussion.
