Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Advice on Closing Unused Credit Cards and Credit Score Impact/Eligibility for Signup Bonuses

Hi All,

I’ve been building credit for 14 years and currently have around 30 credit cards. Lately, it’s become a hassle to keep track of them, especially when it comes to getting new physical cards after expiration. Additionally, with issuers like AMEX, I’ve noticed I’m no longer eligible for certain new card promo bonuses.

I’m considering closing some of my unused cards to simplify things, but I’m concerned about the potential impact on my credit score. What’s the best strategy for closing cards while minimizing the effects on my credit?

Long term, I’d like to keep applying for new cards, primarily to take advantage of promo and sign-up bonuses. Does one has intel for major card issuers (AMEX, Chase, Wells Fargo, BofA, Capital One, Citi, Discover etc.) on when (ie how many months or years) they allow to apply for same card that one closed in the past and get the a sign-on bonus again? Any tips or strategies would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
