Personal Investments • What would you do with extra cash if you had a goal in mind?

Let’s assume for a moment that you had an extra $500-$700k in cash and you have a goal to turn that into roughly ~$950k in about 4.5 years in order to pay off a mortgage.

I don’t want this to be a debate about the mathematics of paying off a mortgage and if it makes sense or not. It’s more about what path does one take to get there, not so much the logic of it (emotional vs. mathematical).

What options does one have to hit this goal (knowing that it’s highly variable and unpredictable of course). HYSA are at about 4-4.5% now but that won’t last forever nor would it get to $950k. I’ve thought about placing cash into VOO or VTI and calling a day. Or possibly leveraging something like Betterment that would diversify the cash across many Vanguard ETFs.

Any other reasonable options that could work?
