Our insurance brokerage did a review on our policies and offered some suggestions:
1. We have $10k in mold remediation on our home policy now. They offer coverage at $25k or up to the dwelling limit for an additional cost. I could see this coverage being useful for someone living in Florida or a moist climate, but in a mostly dry climate, I'm skeptical.
2. They offer primary flood insurance, but it provides limited dwelling coverage. The cost is about 1/3 of what we're paying for the regular home policy. We have a fully finished basement, but do not live in a flood zone.
Is it worth looking into any of these additional coverages?
Our policies skyrocketed this year, which I expected. We're going to save a little by increasing our home and auto deductibles further, but there's not much room for any other savings. I'd like to have the coverage that makes sense, but not overpay for coverage we don't need.
