Hi,

I got annoyed when I saw vanguard 401k not listing holdings.
It only have total account balance and sum of transaction activity in dollars per fund.

It should list holdings and the quantity of the holding. so that we can verify that nothing is missing from statement to statement.
Just mentioning the dollar value is not enough to figure out if they suddenly lost a few quantity of the holding or an entire holding.

I had a situation where they lost a whole fund(one holding) from my account and claim that I never even bought it. It took many months of followup and talking to different person everytime and briefing them after a phone call. It was a hard time. Luckly I had an old copy of the transaction and was able to provide it, to prove them. Glad they honoured it and fixed the situation by putting back the fund and appropriate quantity in my account.

How do people keep the records ?
As statement copy is not enough, do you download all transaction copies and all the tax lot information regularly ?

Any software or a procedure you follow ?
