hile my mom was visiting over the holidays, I wanted to upgrade my status and my wife (as backup) status' from Power of Attorney to Durable Power of Attorney so I retain the ability to manage if she becomes incapacitated. My mom also has a Fidelity account and that has already been setup for DPOA. However, when I contacted Schwab, they said that since her account is associated with the advisor, I need work through her advisor. I contacted her advisor, but they responded that schwab will only add DPOA unless there is a medical diagnose from the primary doctor. Is this difficult to do if she becomes incapacitated? Does anyone have DPOA with Schwab. Surprisingly Schwab is the only financial institution where the power of attorney is just POA instead of DPOA.
