Personal Investments • Are Tax Loss Harvesting rules share specific?

Thinking of TLH some old shares of a fund that have a loss
Not selling any shares purchased in the 31 day window
The proceeds from the sale will be used to buy a non-similar fund.

Not sure if the newer shares purchased in last 31 days, that are not being sold will trigger a wash sale.
Are those newer shares considered replacement shares?

The newer shares have only a small $$ loss so it's really no big deal except with wash sale adjustments, form 8949 will also be required instead of just Schedule D :|

Thanks
