Personal Investments • Muni Taxable Bond Space before Retirement

Looking at 3-5 years until retirement and am currently looking at some bond allocation with new money coming into taxable to give us some flexibility on when to sell stock funds after retirement for expenses. Currently 100% equity in my taxable at Fidelity and use my 401k to manage overall AA.

We live in CA and are 32% federal and 10.3% state so I am looking at some of the municipal funds in order to avoid more taxable income in those brackets.

I do plan on moving out of whatever the fund is after retirement when I am in lower marginal tax brackets (although still 22%), thus only a 3-5 year horizon on keeping money in the municipal fund.

I've been considering VTEC (0.08%ER) because most of the other funds I am finding have much higher ER although with a 6.2 year average duration I'm not sure if I should be looking at shorter duration funds.
