Personal Consumer Issues • April Van In France - Nice to Jura?

Last two aprils we drove around and hiked and bicycled in the spanish and french pyrenees. A few tall passes aren't open and there's snow sometimes but we didn't feel constrained because there was so much to do. We have no schedule and just adapt from day to day and sleep on the side of forest roads. We don't like cities, retirement areas and tourist stuff and never drive more than 2 hours in a day. We mostly stick to the rainy mountains and avoid the dry blasted plains. Generally we resupply in a town every 3-4 days. We like cooking with the great local ingredients from the farmers markets. We like being around the people in the actual rural towns that have schools full of screaming kids. And the bread and cheese and the basque sidra. And the rain and the green and the fresh air.

We are again starting in girona, 31 days in van and thinking this year to work our way up north to the Jura region of france?

Ideally we would go north from Nice up into alp maritime but there's big snowy passes there and probably we couldn't make it out of the valleys and need to back track. There's a bunch of lower altitude parks to the west that we could transit instead. Some day I want to visit val mustair in swiss-land but its just too far for this trip.

Anyone know this region from nice to jura and can recommend some stuff? Hikes? Mtb trails? Climbing/bouldering? Can't miss restaurants or wineries?

Should we try to loop from nice to the east through italy counterclockwise to dijon, then work back south?
