Hello, Bogleheads!
I’m currently exploring a career opportunity with a young and growing ETF manager and would appreciate the community’s feedback. My background is in the investment management industry, primarily in executive roles at a corporate bond SMA (separately managed account) manager. This potential role would be a shift into ETFs, focusing on operational, accounting, and compliance responsibilities (not client-facing).
The firm specializes in niche ETFs that employ strategies including derivatives, concentrated positions in the “Magnificent 7” tech stocks, and thematic areas like cannabis, gaming, and covered call strategies. (Not Boglehead-type investments!) Given these characteristics, I’d love to get insights from those familiar with the ETF space or these types of products.
Specifically, I’m curious about:
1.The risks and opportunities associated with working at a younger ETF firm with a specialized focus.
2.Challenges or considerations when managing ETFs with derivatives, concentrated positions, or thematic exposures.
3.Broader differences between the SMA and ETF industries that might be helpful to know.
This seems like an exciting opportunity to broaden my experience, but I want to ensure I understand the unique challenges and dynamics of this space.
Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!
