We sold the old house and will receive 1.2 million after expenses with which to pay off the new house. (Not seeking guidance on whether to pay off house or fund portfolios, please.) There will be 1-2 months between funds being ready from old house sale and the timing to use them on purchasing the new house. New house is purchased - so the house is certain in cost, just cannot pay it off for red tape reasons I won't go into until April.
So I have a million to park in cash equivalent for a short while. Is my best bet the current Vanguard CD at 4.35% for 1-3 months?
$900,000 is to pay off the house. I'll have 300K I can put into my portfolio now, so that part can be invested all at once or DCA.
We have no debts, HCOL, standard 3-fund accounts with adequate AA for our needs and risk-tolerance. Strong income, high savings. Wife's income may decrease due to Trump's cutting of public funding for orgs she works for, so my risk tolerance will take a dip until that clarifies. No state tax. TIA.
