Hi All,
Without delving into too many details - In negotiations for a new job, would you offer your total compensation or just your base pay? Currently, total compensation includes up to XX% above my base pay and is based on grant funding. This may fluctuate, but I anticipate maintaining the XX% for at least the next 3 years in my present position. I'm considering mentioning the total comp so that the potential employer knows what I'm benchmarking any offer against. I feel this approach might be more effective, so that I don't receive an initial offer and then reveal that my current total compensation is X. Also, this is an academic position so salary distributions are pretty well known. Any thoughts or past experiences?
