Personal Consumer Issues • Replace tankless w/heat pump water heater in utility closet of finished basement?

We were looking at a heat pump water heater to put in a utility closet in a finished basement. The utility closet is also where our HVAC air handler for our air source heat pump is located and the duct work in that room is not insulated (the room itself is insulated although it's not technically conditioned since there are no vents.

We are planning to replace a tankless gas water heater, so there is already a 6" vent pipe going outside.

Here are my questions:

1. is outside venting better?
2. how much colder does the HPWH make a room? I'm concerned about having it in an unheated utility closet shared by our HVAC system.
3. are they reliable? One installer stopped installing them and said to wait a couple years because the current models being sold in the US are garbage and he'd been dealing with endless warranty calls. I guess our technology is still way behind, but quickly catching up.
