I wonder what everyone thought of the video posted on the website. Two things struck me (I know he is new): 1) it was very short and very generic. Anyone could have given that speech about any company in the world. Certainly, he has heard of the technology issues at Vanguard and certainly he has heard of the customer service complete failures at Vanguard. I would hope he has a staff that pre-briefed him on all of this. While he obviously has no solution, he could have showed some empathy and at least recognized he has heard this.
Second, while I am happy he mentioned John Bogle's name, I did not like how he characterized John Bogle's mission (Simple, rock bottom costs, indexing). All he said was he would continue John Bogle's desire to do what is best for investors. That is very generic. I doubt anyone in this industry thinks they are doing what is NOT in the investor's best interest. I would have felt better if he gave a nod to the real John Bogle vision.
I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, although I am skeptical and this did not help.
